Over the winter holiday, my husband and I welcomed in the New Year slope side at the Ritz Carlton Bachelor Gulch. It was the most ultimate staycation for us just two hours from our home in Denver. Yet somehow, we felt as if we were worlds away from our responsibilities and daily city life. The Ritz far exceeded our expectations for our ski trip. I mean, I knew it was going to be nice and luxurious because it is the Ritz, but I did not expect the hotel staff to welcome us in as family and treat us as if we were home in our own mountain chalet. My 6 month old tibetan terrier, Clover, thought the walkways were here runaways as she made best friends with every man, woman and child she met. The hotel staff offered her doggy biscuits every time she went through the lobby. To say this hotel is dog friendly would be an understatement. Clover knew the vacation was all for her with her custom doggy bed, treats and slope side fetch sessions… She was over the moon.
This is by far my favorite hotel I have ever stayed at in Colorado. The ambiance of the hotel is an over-the-top rustic mountain cabin with contemporary art details from local artists, roaring natural fireplaces and an amazing bluegrass duo playing next to the fire. There are three killer restaurants including the newly renovated WYLD, a local, grass fed meat concept from Wolfgang Puck. But my favorite meal is at the outside grill and smoker, Daniel’s Bar. Killer chili hot dogs, brisket, and burgers served slope side on picnic tables with a “help yourself” toppings and BBQ sauce station. I literally found myself skiing down the slopes like, “One more run and I will have earned my chili dog!!”
So the food, design and service is all superb… But what really puts the icing on this mountain top cake is the spa. I don’t think one day went by the entire week that I wasn’t down there soaking in the hot tubs, waterfall grottos, steam rooms and sauna. All complimentary for guests. I even got the nerve to dip in the cold plunge a few times. The perfect antidote to a long day on the slopes.
For the winter, the hotel is located on mountain for the ultimate ski in/ski out service complete with a ski valet and slippers when you come off mountain. The also have amazing snowshoe adventures as well. For summer, the whole area is a playground for hiking, fishing and near by lake paddle boarding.
As I mentioned before, the service at this hotel went above and beyond what was to be expected. We truly felt at home every moment of our stay. Thank you Ritz Carlton Bachelor Gulch for an unbelievable winter vacation. I can’t wait to do it all over again next New Year!! (and hopefully sometime in between.)
