It’s always fun to start a new series on the blog. This new series, Stay with Me, I am super excited about because I am able to share my love of travel and hotels with you all. Each Stay with Me will feature a hotel I have traveled to, my favorite things about the hotel, and a little bit about the area around it and my trip in general.
11 Howard is a special hotel in New York. It is a new hotel, having just opened this spring. The whole concept behind 11 Howard is Conscious Hospitality. 11 Howard partners with Global Poverty Project whose mission is a world without extreme poverty by 2030. By booking at the hotel, a portion of the room rate is donated to GPP to help fight extreme poverty.
The design is a dream. Think Danish minimalism meets New York realism. The interior design was The rooms and their views, stunning. The herbal toiletries, so amazing that I brought them home. (and I normally can’t stand hotel soaps.) The brand new french restaurant, Le Cou Cou was other worldly and had me dreaming of Paris. Le Cou Cou’s bar was like you were hanging out in your own private French mansion with gorgeous vintage couches to sit on while you sip cocktails. The second floor, Library, where I could sip tea and work on my computer was beautiful and low key. But my favorite thing about this hotel? No hype. There isn’t some scene in the lobby or bar full of people. Le Cou Cou just made the Eater heat list and it had only been open two weeks, but the entrance is separate so it doesn’t affect your flow in and out of the hotel. Same with the chic bar meets night club The Blond. The lobby is without a front desk, and instead 11 Howard has friendly staff with iPads and complimentary water ready to greet you upon arrival and when you enter after walking around the city. The hotel service was superb. The lobby staff were cool and informed on all the area options one might need to know.
The location of 11 Howard is prime at the corner of Howard and Layafette. There were so many restaurants and shops right out our door. My hubby and I were able to walk out the door to so many of our favorite spots. We spent two of our nights at the Pamorama Festival in Randall’s Island. We were able to check out our dear friend, Justin Bolognino’s creative endeavor, The Lab, and see Kendrick Lamar and Alabama Shakes among others. We snuck in a little trip to the Whitney to see Stuart Davis’s exhibition, and walked to our favorite Italian spot Il Buco. I got my nails done walking distance from the hotel at my homegirl Rita De Alencar Pinto’s Vanity Projects. I did a little damage at Rachel Comey’s boutique a few blocks from the hotel. We also were able to walk to favorites Balthazar and Jack’s Wife Freda. And the day I was leaving, I stumbled into Smile to Go and had literally the best gluten free banana nut bread of my life. 11 Howard was so good to us, and I simply cannot wait to go back.
Thanks for staying with me.
