This last week my sweetie yorkie, Jasmine, aka Jazzy, turned 11. I have never thrown her a birthday party before, but this year I felt inclined to do so as she has spent the past year in and out of the hospital suffering from a digestive disease. Fortunately, she has prevailed with flying colors and all her levels are now stable due to the right medications and a fancy new organic, grain free diet. So it was time to celebrate my fur baby with all of our her favorite dog friends.

The concept for the party was “Yappy Hour,” a backyard happy hour with a few dear friends and their dogs. And because why not, I themed the party a “Puppy Pirate” party, and went with tropical-inspired adult treats to match. We had dog pupcakes, tennis balls, and bones for the dogs. And most importantly, we had a full tropical spread for the adults; pina coladas, mango guacamole, tropical shrimp cocktail and freshly sliced watermelon. All perfect elements to have on a hot summer evening in the backyard.
