It’s the beginning of March, and spring fever doesn’t even begin to describe how I have been feeling. It has been a long winter. I usually am such a huge fan of winter, but this one was a little different. I suffered a huge loss of my precious fur baby, Jasmine, after months of her being sick. I had to just check out for awhile from the blog, and from as much of my life as I could. Gentleness, Support of family and friends, and Time have been my allies through this time. It’s so true what they say about grief, it comes in waves. And I have been trying my best to let the waves flow. I have also been looking forward to warmer weather, to spring, and to time helping to heal my heart.
As much as I have spring fever, the weather is still chilly at night and I know we still have a few big snows left in Colorado before spring promises us her poetic rebirth. In the meantime, I am taking comfort in the first green tulip leaves bursting through my garden, and knowing that like she always does, spring opens my heart like the fragile yet resilient tulips that open to share their beauty.
In the meantime, I offer you this delicious amaro hot toddy. To comfort your heart on cold spring evenings, as we dream of spring’s warmth, love, and promise of rebirth.
Cinnamon Amaro Hot Toddies
Makes one cocktail.
- 1.5 ounces of Bourbon (I use Breckenridge Bourbon)
- .5 amaro (I use Montenegro)
- 1 cup of hot water
- black tea bag
- cinnamon stick
- lemon wedge
- spoon full of honey
- Scrappy’s Cardamom bitters
Bring water to boil. Steep tea bag for 5 minutes. In your mug. First pour bourbon and amaro. Add black tea, lemon squeeze, and a few dashes of cardamom bitters. Garnish with cinnamon stick.
