It’s post Thanksgiving and pre Holidays which has me wanting to eat healthy but still wanting to indulge a little. This is the perfect smoothie for that balance somewhere between detoxing and satisfying your holiday sweet tooth. Don’t get me wrong, when I bake my favorite bourbon pecan pie, I plan on housing an entire pie to myself, but in the meantime I am trying to exercise a little self control and feel great in the process. This smoothie will energize you with lots of amazing superfoods and nutrients to keep you going strong between all the holiday parties, events and indulgent meals.
This smoothie features cacao, maca and cinnamon as superfoods.
Cacao is a seed from a small tropical American evergreen tree. It is anti-aging because it is super high in antioxidants. 20 x more so than blueberries. (which this smoothie also has) Cacao is an aphrodisiac and it can also boost your serotonin levels. It also supports your heart by improving blood circulation.
Maca is a root from the the Andes Mountains of Peru. It has been used as medicine for thousands of years. It is great for hormone balance, energy and memory. Maca will adapt to you own body’s hormone needs to help balance your hormones. Uridine helps improve brain function.
Cinnamon is a bark from a small evergreen tree. You will want to find Ceylon Cinnamon for the maximum health benefits. Cinnamon is anti-inflammatory, can reduce your bad cholesterol, and has anti-bacterial anti-fungal properties.
Chocolate Superfood Smoothie
makes 1 smoothie.
- 1 cup unsweetened hazelnut milk
- 1 tablespoon raw organic cacao powder
- 1 tablespoon maca
- 1 tablespoon cinnamon ceylon
- 1 teaspoon raw organic honey
- 1 banana
- 1 cup blueberries
- 1 cup raw kale or spinach
Put all ingredients in the blender starting first the the nut milk. Blend until smooth. Feel free to garnish with unsweetened coconut flakes. Sip and feel super!
