I’m excited to share this power smoothie with you all. This is my go to pre-workout smoothie these days. I have always been a big fan of eating a banana before a workout. It’s easy energy and never makes me nauseous during a workout, which some fruits and nut butters seem to do. I wanted a smoothie that would digest easily but also have some protein to kick off my day. I tend to work out a few hours after I wake up so I wanted something with protein to sustain me through a workout. This smoothie doubles up with both collagen peptides and hemp seeds for protein. I love the Vital Proteins collagen so much. I really try to get my collagen in everyday. It’s the best anti-aging secret I have found plus it is great for your hair, skin, joints and bones. I love hemp seeds as a plant -based protein source because there are also high in antioxidants. Dates are a miracle food in my opinion. They deliver vital glucose to the liver and are high in potassium which make them great for refueling the muscles. Bananas are my favorite fruit. When I was really sick and dealing with a stomach hernia that led me to barely be able to eat, bananas were my lifeline. I could be nauseous and full of GERD, and bananas were the one thing that could help settle my stomach. Medical Medium calls them the “secret weapon is reversing colitis, IBS, and Crohn’s disease.” The last ingredient in this power smoothie is cinnamon. Cinnamon is anti-inflammatory and also full of antioxidants. Plus it is so delicious with the dates.

Workout Hack: When I am on the run after a work out, I make this smoothie in my Nutribullet and throw on one of their lids and I am out the door. I just add ice to keep it cold. Due to all the potassium and protein in this smoothie it also makes for an excellent recovery smoothie post workout.

Banana Date Power Smoothie

Makes 1 smoothie

Ingredients

  • 1 Banana, chopped into 1 inch pieces
  • 2 Dates, chopped
  • 2 scoops Vital Proteins collagen peptides
  • 2 tbsp Hemp seeds
  • 1 cup Unsweetened almond milk
  • 1 tsp Cinnamon

Instructions

  1. Put all ingredients (except 1 tablespoon hemp seeds) in a blender.

    Blend on high for 1 minute.

    Pour into a glass and garnish with hemp seeds.
