January has been an epic month for snow in the Colorado mountains. It’s definitely been a few years since the snow was this good in January. Tons of snow, aka tons of powder, calls for powder skis. I decided to use the conditions to test out some new powder skis. At Christy Sports, in the Beaver Creek Village, you can demo any of their skis for three days and apply that credit to your purchase. I decided to take advantage of this offer and test out some new skis. I wanted more width but still with an all mountain feel so that they skis aren’t too hard to maneuver when on groomers, so I went with the Salomon Luxe 92’s. They performed great in two 10 inch plus powder days as well as a 5 inch powder day. I was able to float through powder fields, steeper terrain and the trees. And at the end of the day, I could take the icy groomer back to my hotel with relative ease. Win. Win. Oh, and I was able to get the bindings in my signature teal color.
These photos are taken at the base of Beaver Creek mountain. I am wearing my Canada Goose vest over a cashmere sweater with a teal and purple beanie. Did I buy the skis just because they matched the beanie? No, but it sure was an added bonus. Canada Goose makes amazing, super warm puffy outer wear. They are a “made in Canada” company with an eye on craftsmanship and giving back. Read their full history here.
