Plaid & Sparkles

The holidays are officially here. The winter solstice is just a week away. Yesterday was a record breaking snowfall for December in Colorado. And my house is feeling very festive. My husband and I are spending both Christmas and New Years at our house this year. With both of our families on the east coast, we normally have some sort of travels during the month of December. Last year it was Art Basel and North Carolina, the year before we were in New York and Aspen. This year we wanted nothing more than to ground down and enjoy the winter holidays from the comfort of our own home.
We have one tradition we created about 8 years ago to honor the Winter Solstice. We normally spend the day together reflected on the year that's past, sometimes journaling, reading, relaxing, and we always celebrate the evening with a date night at our favorite sushi spot. Sushi Solstice.
This year for Christmas Eve we are going to see the new Star Wars and have dinner at our favorite Jazz bar. Christmas day we are trying out a new tradition of driving to Beaver Creek for the day to ski, and then celebrate with a huge feast of crab legs and a roast with friends back in Denver. Apparently Beaver Creek's slopes are pretty quiet on Christmas day with all the presents happening off the mountain. So we will carpool with friends and spend the day cruising the mountain and enjoying winter's majestic scenery to the fullest.
For New Years we are staying in and taking it easy this year. We are going to stay in, drink champagne and eat a huge spread of cheese and charcuterie.... In our pajamas. Yes please.
Cheers to you and yours. To the holiday season. To the gratitude of the year that has passed. And to the hope and possibility of the year to come.
